鸣蛇 Ming She tells the tale of one of the most iconic creatures in The Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Chinese book about mythical creatures with thousands of years of history. The character Ming She is designed from the description in the original book as well as other interpretation done in existing films. He has the body of a snake and four wings, which in this version, two of the wings are placed around its ear area, metaphorically refers to the creature being blinded by vengeance.
To better align the visuals with the story, most of the scenes are purposely drawn mimicking the traditional Chinese paintings. Starting from the first scene, ink droplets gradually dripping onto the paper and unveiling a village hidden within mountains.
